yay christmas!
i sleep in, i eat good food, i drink decent wine, i hang out w/ cool peeps, i read good books; i want this holiday thing to last all year long! or at least until i'm sick of being in my mom's house ;)
i attempted to unplug a little for the holidays, and it's working! perhaps a little too well, as i missed a newfoundlandbibliodrinkingfest at everyone's favourite haunt. i'm sure the boys had a drink for me, though, so it's all good!
i had kind of forgotten how people in these parts use pet names hand over fist. i've been called my lovely, my ducky, honey, sweetie, darlin' and dearie more times in 2 weeks than all the other weeks of the year combined, i think. i haven't gotten an old trout yet, though. i'm holdin' out!
i had also forgotten my mother's affection for game shows. they've really cranked up production! it's not only jeopardy [which, come on, is the BEST ever!!] and wheel of fourtune anymore. it's some show with howie mandel and he's bald and the contestents have to just pick numbered cases filled with money protected by skantily clad beautiful women. and there's a show with william shatner (bill?) and dancing skantily clad beautiful women. and there's one with penn from penn and teller (no teller though.. hope he wasn't eaten by a tiger, too?). it's a verifiable jungle of game shows!! :)
on a more biblio-note, my niece has requested for christmas a list of authors and musicians she should read/listen to. nice! so i've been busy compiling. i think it's a great idea to give a little list (buulleted or otherwise, perhaps even in bookmark form?) to everyone on your christmas list new things they should experience! so.. anyone out there who would like to offer up some suggestions for my beautiful niece, now's your chance to shine! musically she loves jack johnson, dave matthews, and bedouin soundclash (and others, but i think most importantly is jack), and bookwise, she's liked everything i've made her read in the past little while (think a fine balance, the kite runner) and pretty much digs anything that has a good storyline and might make her cry. she's 21, looking to be a primary/elementary teacher (or a pediatric nurse) and is completely in love! i have a list of my own to give her, but any additions would be great! i'll not post my list in case she reads, so that some of it may be surprising!
cheers!

Ms Hyde!
Glad Christmas is rolling into New Foundie Land. I, too, feel your pain re: certain perpetual downsides to the holidays.
We all move away and begin our own lives, and then we return to visit our Homesteads only to find that certain cliches and such are ever present! And we wonder how on Earth we ever survived with them 24/7! But family and friends rock, and I'm glad you and you Mum and sista are going to be having a good time!
PS: Our cats are being *VERY* bad! Phil and I had to split up a *huge* fight yesterday morning. Oh dear!
Keep 'er real!
